Orthodontics, orthodontia, or orthodonture (from Greek orthos "straight or correct or perfect"; and odous "tooth") is that the initial specialty of dentistry that's involved with the study and treatment of malocclusions (improper bites), which can be a results of tooth irregularity, disproportionate jaw relationships, or both. Orthodontic treatment will target dental displacement solely, or will modify the management and modification of facial growth. within the latter case it's higher outlined as "dentofacial orthopaedics". Orthodontic treatment are often applied for purely aesthetic reasons with regards to improving the final look of patients' teeth. However, there are orthodontists who work on reconstructing the complete face instead of focusing solely on teeth.
